Diana in a signature Walker design
Catherine Walker, the much celebrated womenswear designer died at the end of September. Based in London, she shot to fame dressing the young Lady Diana Spencer and became a long time favourite after she became Princess of Wales for day and evening wear. Walker shied from publicity during her long career allowed her fashion garments to take the limelight. She is a favourite with red carpet celebrities of all ages.
Walker's love of simple silhouette and inner decorative detail allowed for beautiful fabric choices that were elegant, classic and influential with other design houses. Intricate beading and embroidery became the trademark of the label and a strong bridal and eveningwear business thrives in the midst of recession.
