Having graduated just 8 months ago, its great to catch up with Gerda Kritt .
1. How did you secure your post after leaving Adam Smith College?
At the end of my 2 year HND Fashion Business course I was searching online and saw a vacancy for a Visual Merchandising Specialist for a brand new Marks and Spencer store opening soon after in Tallinn, Estonia, my hometown. I was always attracted to display as I know what a difference it can make to the way a fashion store looks overall and to sales. There were 700 applicants for the position and I heard later that it was what I had learned from my recent course that got me the job.
2.Please could you describe your role with M&S?
My main duty as the VM specialist is to implement new season launches and keep very high standards of merchandising layout throughout the store. The team and I also dress and style the mannequins following the M&S concept. Collections should be displayed in a way thats shows them in their best light and nice and easy for the customers to enjoy and browse.
3. Who else do you work with?
Our team is quite large. In our new store alone we have 30 sales assistants, Store Manager, 2 Supervisors and me. This team manages the work to a high quality standard. in the bigger picture we have a VM Area Manager who is responsible for all the Baltic countries. Altogether there are 5 VM Specialists in the Baltics and we work very closely together - on Model Stores, launched each season and new store openings.
