I loved the final backlit effects of these photos which remind me of x-rays. These intimate apparel pieces were worn by my husband's relatives, probably in Edinburgh, between 1850 and 1925. They are a real insight into hand craftsmanship detailing. The garments use a lot of handwork in their construction and the trimmings are all made or attached by hand. If you look closely you can see tiny hand stitches. Although yellowed with age when first discovered last month, they washed by hand and brightened very well. The hand made buttonholes are just wonderful but that is for another time.
