The UK fashion marketplace is doing well. Today Marks and Spencer announce profits increase of 13% which is partly due to warm weather in April, Easter holidays and Royal Wedding euphoria making shoppers feel positive and generous with their disposable incomes.
"The growth of fast fashion has led women in Britain buying four times as many clothes as 30 years ago." writes Maurice Chittenden in last weeks Sunday Times. He goes on to discuss the average woman in Britain buys 62lbs of clothing- about half her bodyweight- in a single year.
The same article continues that recent research findings from consumer expert Lucy Seigle, show that an average woman will spend £133,640 in her lifetime on looking good and has 22 garments in her wardrobe that are unworn.
Interesting. Thought provoking and worrying all at once?
