India Flint

What a treat!...today I attended a talk by textile artist India Flint in the MacIntosh Lecture Theatre at Glasgow School of Art.

India works with cloth, paper, felt, weaving, stitch and bio-regionally gathered ecologically sustainable dyes -  windfallen leaves, bark, weeds and earth pigments.

Her work has been described as using " the earth as the printing plate and time as the press"

She recently was artist in residence at the Big Cat Textile studio in Newburgh, exploring the River Tay, and giving workshops in natural dyeing and bundling processes.

One of the bundles created at Newburgh was opened up at the end of the talk revealing the beautiful marks and colours achieved by the reaction of the plant material, water and time. India also writes about her explorations in eco colour and has an inspiring website.
