Antonio Lopez

There is a wonderful contemporary feel to these vintage 1960 illustrations from Elle May 1967 by Antonio Lopez, not only do they have a wonderful colour pallet but I also love the collaged monochrome image of buildings in the windows of the top image. Antonio Lopez was born in Puerto Rico but raised in New York he was encouraged by his family (his mother was a dress maker) to pursue a career in fashion illustration. As a student he got an internship with Woman's Wear Daily, this was so successful that he left college without completing his course and to work for them and then went on to the New York Times, as his career developed he produced illustrations for many publications including  Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Elle.

David studied at Canterbury and Wolverhampton and worked as a illustrator until in 1996 he was commissioned by the Financial Times to draw at couture shows and since then David has become known principally as a fashion illustrator.
